Foodies, a flexible and innovative solution that’s redefining food for the workplace and beyond, has started to implement Nutri-Score on our products. In 2021, on average 29% of the products in the Foodies Micromarkets and Grab & Go has Nutri-Score A and 19% has Nutri-Score B. We are committed to enable final consumers to see at a glance which products have a healthier composition in our assortment.
PLANT-BASED ALTERNATIVES FOR OFFICE SPACES
We successfully launched plant-based topping alternatives in 2021. A plant-based diet has a significant positive impact human health and the environment, especially due to the GHG from dairy production.
We continuously review our operational processes to reduce food waste, for example by adjusting the filling rate and planograms of our smart fridges. We also implement partnerships with suppliers to introduce rotation, seasonality, and promotional events. we set awareness campaigns to reduce food waste, for example discounted and free giveaways of Best Before Date products.
We offer a Small Office Solutions concept, where clients can order fresh fruit boxes through our local suppliers. Vitamin-rich breaks with fresh fruit motivate teams and peak performance! In the individual fruit box, we deliver vitamin bombs in the form of fresh fruit that support tree planting in Malawi in some the Selecta markets.
CIRCULARITY AND CLIENTS SOLUTIONS
CUP REUSE AND RECYCLING
In 2021, the share of paper cups across the group further increased to 75%, compared to 67% in 2020. We tested a circular client solution through the 'Cup it Simple' concept to collect approximately 477.500 through the planned restocking and maintenance visits of our JOY Ambassadors and dispatched them a processing plant and turned into bathroom tissue. We continue to expand our recycling plans across all Selecta markets.
UPCYCLING COFFEE WASTE STREAMS
In 2021 we launched a pilot with Circular Design to manufacture coffee trays and bins made from 'coffee waste' and recycled PET bottle caps, as a client solution. This resulted in 1.000 coffee trays and 253 bins. The coffee grounds for this pilot were collected by our joy ambassadors through planned restocking and maintenance visits. We plan to continue our local partnerships to upcycle our spent coffee beans across the Selecta Group.
LIFE EXTENSION OF VENDING MACHINES
On average, a vending machine has a minimum of seven years and a maximum of 10 years lifetime. At Selecta we extend the life cycle of vending machines to a maximum of 20 years through frequent maintenance and refurbishment. Numbers of refurbished machines are generally increasing – in Switzerland, for example, refurbished machines now account for 51% of machines in the field, up from 33% in 2019.
